2012/06/25 – Ashland/OR: Railroad District

(Disclaimer: this visit actually occurred in 2008, but include it here for convenience)

Ashland’s Railroad District is a wonderful reminder of American Nostalgic Capitalism: that is, take a historically viable, run-down area, and revitalize it. (The historical part is in pretty good shape; the revitalization continues to be a work-in-progress).

Probably suggested before how towns often built up & away from RR, but Ashland’s is tucked away at what was once possibly “the edge of town”. (Sorta nice in a way: there’s no “other side of the tracks” from which to be.)

At any rate, a few hints…

Haskin’s Gas Station (240? 4th): once a fire station

Old Depot (631 A St): but it’s spozed to be sand-colored

Peerless Hotel (243 4th): “there’s a small hotel, with a wishing well”
